The Somali Communication Workers Union (SOCOWU) strongly condemns the recent unjust actions committed against its dedicated members within Hormuud Telecom Somalia. Our members, hardworking individuals contributing to the nation’s connectivity, have endured unwarranted suffering due to an unfortunate incident.
It is disheartening to note that the National Intelligence and Security Agency, entrusted with safeguarding the lives and dignity of Somali citizens, has been implicated in harassing SOCOWU members. We vehemently denounce such actions and call for an immediate cessation of any undue treatment against these workers.
SOCOWU urgently appeals to the leaders of the National Intelligence and Security Agency and all government officials to swiftly release the workers who are currently unlawfully detained. We emphasize the importance of upholding justice, respecting the rights of workers, and fostering an environment where citizens can contribute to the nation’s progress without fear of persecution.
Furthermore, we implore the President of the Republic of Somalia and the Prime Minister to intervene and take decisive action against those responsible for the harassment of our members. It is crucial that those accountable are held responsible for their actions and that justice prevails.
SOCOWU remains committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of communication workers in Somalia. We trust that our plea for justice will be heard, and swift action will be taken to rectify this unfortunate situation.
